Does the analogue clock block work with Windows Servers 2003 or only with Linux. Do you have a zip file?

It is working. How do i get the server time instead of the client computer time?

Dear Tieku Bortei-Doku,
I will add this feature very soon.. stay tuned and good luck!

Morning Amr,
Thanks for your analogic clock block.
I want to know if can now get the server time instead of the client computer time?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Amr,

I’m from Brazil and I’m doing a research of the moodle tool.
I was very interested of your plugin with skype in a construtivism aspect. How can I obtain more information regarding your product?

Thanks in advance!

Tatiana

Hi Tatiana,
well, for the documentation and other activity resources regarding skype module; you have to contact E.L Cooper, because she is writing the documentation.
her skype ID is: moodle-support
you can add her to your contacts and she will help you..

thank you

When I tried to download this module, the web site never came up (I waited 10 minutes) to offer me the file.

Hi Scott,
can you download it now?!

Same problem here. I try to download the skype module from (LINK REMOVED), but it has no response. Is this the correct URL?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Sandra,

the site is down for regular maintenance
it will be live soon,

take care

Thanks, Amr, I can download it now.

After installing and adding a new skype activity, I got this error:

Notice: Undefined property: stdClass::$paricipants in ..\mod\skype\mod.html on line 25 All Group Users

Fixed that in mod.html by adding the following after line 3:

$form->paricipants = 0;

But then, when I want to start using the skype module, select a user and click the ‘Choose’ button, I get this error:

Notice: Undefined variable: course in ..\mod\skype\call.php on line 12
Notice: Undefined variable: cm in ..\mod\skype\call.php on line 12

Could it be I do not have the latest version yet? I downloaded a copy from (link removed) today (files have modification dates of June 13th 2008).
In the version you sent me by mail it also gives this error, but I do see the buttons to connect with the selected user. In the new version I do not see the buttons.

Thanks in advance & I would be happy to help you testing the module.

Sandra

Hi Sandra,
nice to hear from you again :)
the main problem is not being ableto determine the last code because there are so many modifications have been donefor a while and because am so busy in other staff not related to moodle nowadays..

for a temporal solution, you must turn debugging off (this is also recommended by MOODLE) then you will avoid notices. and since your are a developer, you know that if you dont define a value of a var you might get such notice, and the list goes on :)

I am so happy that you can help in this, also E.L Cooper who contributed the documentation of this module and currently working on it. but for the time being amso sorry for not being able to follow up on-time, and i have a very tight line for someproject ending on the first week of september, until that date, i will do my best to update and validate the code and upload it to moodle CVS.

thank you again sandra for being that helpful person, and for your support.

Amr

Hi,
I have installed the block File Manager but when i click on the link Upload/Download Files it says the following: “The Link Manager has been Disabled!”. Please help me! How can i enable the link Manager?

Hi Maria,
go to block configuration / Setup and enable it :)

Skypecast module looks great but can’t seem to get it to work. Installs fine, but all I get is the Skypecast logo and “ddd” underneath, with no users listed even though have people with skype listed in their profile.

Hi Alan,

unfor. this is a bug in moodle library not in the module, try to upgrade your code to the latest one available in the same version, or you can fix the library by yourself (i.e: the query order by should be removed)..

hope that will help.

I have the same issue that alan is facing. I only need the skype activity not the skypecast. how do we change that? if there is no other sulotion than how do we fix the library? (I’m not familiar with moodle or programming so please explain in detail)

furthermore, where are the icons in the “pics” forlder supposed to show? although I added the skype activity I couldn’t find the images anywhere.

Last question, I would like to add an “add me to skype” as the one on this moodle page http://www.techinedonline.com/moodle/ does anyone have any idea as to how to do that?

thanks, your help would be much appreciated.

Dear Amr:

Thanks for the wonderful module. I too am hoping to get it to work. As one can see at http://www.obinc.us/skyping.jpeg I too have the famous “ddd”. My unix install is the most recent stable release, and I’m not familiar with how to fix the library without specific help and detailed direction.

A couple of words for those interested in the module, and a suggestion. The image which is linked shows the page for those interested. On the left, I have only one skypeable student in the class, and when I “choose” them, the pop-up window allows me to add the student as a contact in my skype, create a conference, chat, or simply send voicemail. Nice.

To the right is a link to Skypecasts, which I’d not known about. Click it, and one is off to Skype where they can set up a broadcast. The broadcast can be public or private, and one-way or a full audio mash-up of everybody;-) For most classes we’d probably make them private since it seems there are many people exploring these chat rooms. When one sets up a Skypecast one can set hours and dates, and even grab a bit of script which students could link to from nearly any page on which one put the invite. Also, the way the module works is that during an open broadcast, this Skypecast window provides a direct link for skype users to log into the discussion. Nice.

Suggestion: There is much to help students learn in order to get them oriented if they’re not already smart Skypers. It’d be super, since this is an “activity” to have a small text box to allow the instructor to provide orientation to the activity. I might, for instance, want to use this for lectures and announce a topic, or to provide links so tha that students who don’t already have Skype could download and get with the program.

Again, thanks for such a useful tool. I got to this from trying to learn about a skype presence block, and this activity posting is quite a different thing for those of us who generally organize our activities into weekly clusters.

Steve Iman — sciman@csupomona.edu

Dear Maha and Steve,

i will follow you with a reply soon..
sorry for being so busy nowadays and couldnt reply to you..

take care!

Amr,

I’m designing a professional development system for faculty of higher ed for my thesis, so I don’t have students with skype accounts to see how the module works (only one skype id which is mine). So when I added the skype activity there were no accounts to choose from. My question is, do I need another account besides mine to be able to select one? and if so, do they have to be looged in to their skype account to be selectable?

Dear Maha,

yes, you must have students skype ids registered in their accounts.

no need to be logged into skype, and if you choosed anything from the menu, it will ignite skype and ask you to put your username and password..

Dear All,
i have fixed skype module and also added “add to my contacts” feature..

you can download it now from: http://rapidshare.com/files/138103576/skype.rar.html

if you still encounter the problem of displaying the users caused by old deprecatedlib.php file in moodle/lib..
kindly change the code of the functions by this code:
http://rapidshare.com/files/138059604/deprecatedlib.php.html

cheers from Amr Hourani!

Thanks a MILLION Amr! IN 1.9.2 I went to manage modules and turned it of, which deleted all information in the database, apparently. I could see that the activities I’d defined in a sample course had disappeared.. so all and good. I went to my Moodle via ftp and deleted the files, and uploaded the ones you shared with me. Click Admin/Notifications, and all installed with success. I could quickly define an activity — and thanks for the text box so that I could provide some preface material on the assignment for my students. No more ‘ddd’, and all seems to work beautifully. What a champ you are! Much appreciated.

thank you steve, and you are welcome anytime!

Dear Amr,

Is your block ‘File sharing’ what I am looking for? I want to give my students a folder in a course to put files in which they want to share. Like a mini-Explorer online.

I can’t find documentation on your website.

Thanks Isabelle

Hi isabelle,
yes it is!

every user can share a file with his/her mates, individualy or even share to all.

try it and good luck

Hi,
I copied the file_manaer in blocks-Directory and logged in as Admin, but nothinh happened. In the administration-mene/modules/blocks is no filemanager visible. What is to do?

Using 1.9.2+ /26/08/2008

Thank you!
Peter

Hi Peter,
Did you check the link: Notifications, in the administration block? you have to click on it to be able to install the module first..

then go to activiteis/modules link, and click on blocks link and check if the file sharing block is available or not..

Hi Amr,

there is no notify to click on and the administration/modules/blocks/manage blocks the file_sharing_block is not available
:-(

Peter

alright peter, no worries!

go to debugging and turn it on, then go to (YOUR_MOODLE_URL/admin/index.php)

tell me what will appear..

good luck

Only one message appears:

Version mismatch: block aou_clock can’t downgrade 2008011400 -> 2006150300!

It’s the analog-clock-block.

Peter

File sharing is block not activity.. did you add it to (MOODLE_DIR/blocks/) ? then go to (YOUR_MOODLE_URL/admin/index.php) and see what messages appear (if there is)

That is exactly what I’ve done:
I copied the folder “file_sharing” to “mymoodledir/blocks” and nothing, absolutely nothing happens when I go to admin-page.

Now I removed the aou-clock and this will be generate an action for the filemanager.

It seemed there are old entries in mysql-db.
After I deleted the tables the admin-page produces only 3 warnings:
1062: Duplicate entry ‘fmanager-add’ for key 2
1062: Duplicate entry ‘fmanager-update’ for key 2
1062: Duplicate entry ‘fmanager-view’ for key 2

but still no success.

I see,

kindly delete any record related (fmanager) in mdl_log and mdl_log display tables, also any table called filemanager in the database, and then go to admin/index.php to reinstall it again.

if you still encouter this problem, plz give me temporal access to your system and i will fix it to you
(send info to a {dot} hourani [at] gmail )

Success – thank you very much! :-) )
Peter

Last year I was with moodle 1.8 and this year I upgrade to 1.9… no problem
I delete 1500 old student with the bulk action in user account… no problem
I create a new course and make and assingment.
I go with only one “student test” account doing this assignment… no problem.
When I correct this assignment as a teacher, I found 1501 students !!!
Where is the problem.
I don’t know wath to do??
Can I go to the database and erase all old mdl_user???

Hi Michel,
usually deleting bulk users do not remove records from mdl_user just because they have other activities assigned to their auto incremental ids, so this will affect db / system consistancy.

the solution moodle uses is to flag them as deleted (i.e: there is a field next to every user in mdl_user called “deleted” and tagged by 1, fo deleted or 0 for active)..

now, for the users you found in the assignment, you can remove them by going to mdl_assignment_submissions and deleted all records for all not-needed users (you will find their ids not usernames), and if you want to delete all users there, just empty the table of mdl_assignment_submissions.

anything else? please let me know..
cheers from Amr Hourani

Hi Amr,

Thanks for the file manager block. Today I installed the block and it seemd to work.

When I share a file to someone, That person can see the share, but when trying to open it, (after the popup notification appeared in the top of the browser asking if download is ok) the browser states that it cannot find the file.

I can ofcourse open the file without any problem.

Hi Amr,

Sharing a link does work (but not a file)

Is it correct that after I share a file/link to someone within a specific course, that person cannot see that link/file from within another course?

I found out that you have to click on show all shared …..

[...] Moodle Support Posted by: Amr Hourani | June 29, 2007 [...]

Installed the file manager on moodle 1.9.2 and it works fine, except when you try to download a shared file using ie. Firefox work well. Is there a way to monitor how students are using it and what they are sharing?

Hi – can you assisst me with the download of correct file manager for moodle 1.9.2. When i download and install the filemanager (for moodle 1.9) from the moodle download page- I get a incompatible message whan i go to manage blocks

Got this sorted – thank you

Hi dfroge,
I will check if it is feasible and find a way to make a user friendly way to make your request the sooner i get free time.
thanks

many thanks!!

Hi Amr
I have tried installing the Skype mod (the most recent download as advised on this site) to Moodle 1.9.2 and all seems fine except:
-I don’t see the name Skype in the list of activities I see [[modulename]]
-In the breadcrumbs I see [[modulenameplural]]
-If I try to update the activity I get an error message “The required instance of this module does not exist”

Do you have any ideas as to what is wrong in this case?

Many thanks

Hi Graeme,
Kindly delete the module from admin->modules
also remove the directory of skype from mod/
then copy a new copy into mod/
and dont forget to put the lang directory into lang files
then go to administration -> system notification and let the module installs itself. then try to create activites and this will work fine with you.

cheers!

Moodle 1.84 on a hosted server.

Backups work when clicked independently – but not on automated.

I know I need to add time in php.ini – but unable to find it on this hosted server. Any ideas on how to work around this??

try to add it in admin/cron.php:

@set_time_limit(0);

Hi Amr

Sorry for the delay. I removed Skype from both places as suggested above “admin->modules” and
“the directory of skype from mod”. After reinstalling I now get 4 errors in notification and setting up tables is unsuccesful.

Hi Graeme,
no problem at all,
kindly notice that you should also drop skype table “mdl_skype” from the database then try to install again. also delete the skype recordS from mdl_log_display (the records where “module” field is skype).

then copy skype directory again to mod/ and dont forget to copy the lang file into appropriate place and then go to admin/index.php and this will install skype.

good luck!

Hi Amr,

Thanks for the database advice. It is now installing correctly according to the notifications but I’m back to the original problem:

I don’t see the name Skype in the list of activities in the dropdown Add activity… I see [[modulename]]
-In the breadcrumbs I see [[modulenameplural]]
-If I try to update the activity I get an error message “The required instance of this module does not exist”

I’m sure I must be missing something but I’m not sure what :-(

I very much appreciate your help with this and the time you’ve spent on it already.

Hi there,

Well, I walked away, had a cup of tea. Followed all the uninstall instructions again. Downloaded it again from http://rapidshare.com/files/138103576/skype.rar.html

installed again …..

Success – many thanks for your patience. A great app :-)

Man, download it from here: http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=1108

I told you to copy the lang files before installing skype module :)

again:
1- go to main site
2- administration block
3- modules
4- activities
5- delete skype module
6- go to dir: mod/skype
7- copy language files into moodle/lang/en_utf8 (for english language file)
8- go to your_moodle/admin/index.php and let moodle install skype..

we are don now :)

plz let me know what the result will be!
cheers!

OH, glad it is working for you now :)
no thanks needed.. at your service

Yep, it is working fine. Just one more thing though. Skypecasts have been stopped by Skype. Is there an easy way of removing the banner and link?

Cheers

Graeme

comment out skypecasts frame in code. check view.php

UPDATE: since skypecasts is not offered anymore by skype.com, Graeme formatted nice instructions and put them on skype module main view and hided the skypecasts frame.
new module can be downloaded from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?k1sgzrtb4b3 and will be included in future versions.

tons of thanks to graeme!

Hi Amr, I’m suppose it is some way to contact you. I was driving for six monthes Michael Daudigon’s work on file manager in conjunction with a local team of students in EISTI/France (Computer Sciences High degree school). Now it seems our common work was adopted and I’m glad of this.

There is actually a version of the file_manager block in CVS, specially on MOODLE_19_STABLE that does not reflect actual state of this block. As you are mentionned as maintainer of this block, would you mind we have CVS updated so to reflect actual state of the file_manager code ?

Moreover, it is a good practice that last versions of code are distributed from http://downloads.moodle.org/download.php/plugins//.zip, which is actually the case for http://download.moodle.org/download.php/plugins19/blocks/file_manager.zip but leading to an old code out of date. This has many advantages, including being statisticized by Moodle HQ so being monitored for being core candidates.

Tell me about your position. Thanks for your participation. Cheers.

Hi Amr,

Where can I get the File Sharing block for moodle 1.9.2 ?

The URL http://amr.web.jo/file_manager.rar is down.
Thanks.

Hi Joao,
try this link: http://www.ilearnware.com/contrib/download.php?file=file_manager.rar

cheers

Not sure I should b here :-0
I m really new and havesetup on external server windows platform moodle 1.9.2

I do not understand how uploading modules such as skype works. I’ve been reading here and there but never have found waht to do exactly with downloaded modules
Not sure if i should ask my server to move on to a linux platform with php5, either any advice? Students have not been uploaded yet only some teacher stuff trials etc.

Thnks and very sorry if i have hit the wrong door

hi john, whether you are on windows or linux both are fine..
you just download any module you want and unzip it, then copy the directory into your_moodle/mod/ and dont forget to move the file in your_moodle/mod/skype/lang/ into moodle/lang/en_utf8/

then go to main page on your site, and click on notifications link or go to yourmoodle/admin/cron.php and moodle will install the module for you..
then you can add this activity in any course eyou want :-)

many thanks Amr!
I ‘ve done it and moodle reacted as u said.
Yet I do not see the module coming up in my own course blocks…
Also I added other pluggins ( i mean modules) such as chapter’s video, podcasts
and moodle wouldn’t accept them…
so I deleted as I felt ( still feel!) that these last days our moodle is particularly slow.

Hi John,
these are modules so you dont see them in blocks! you must turn editing on, then inside the course you will see 2 drop down menus, the first one for resources and the second one for activties (modules) click on the second one and you will see the newly installed modules.

these drop downs are found in the middle of course, in each section regardless if it is topical or social or weekly section.

as for the performance issue, No, it doesnt affect performance, check the server load, memory availability, run cron jobs at mid night and monitor the number of concurrent users on the systems.. adding new modules do not affect performance.

hello,
Many thanks for your file manager block.
whith moodle 1.9.1+ i’ve little trouble …
When the size for max directory is different unlimited, it’s not possible to see the total file size in my file…only [[remains]] instead of the real size…
when unlimited directory size is select, no trouble…
I can’t find a solution , and i’ve not enough size to select unlimited size for max directory :( …but it works fine ! :)

Hi Pascalow,
thank you for notifying me, I will make sure to correct it very soon.. just give me time, i have tooo much overhead nowadays..
thanks again :-)

Hi Amr,
thanks for your fine work, my students are happy, but not me: I can’t see what they are doing with directories and uploaded files. I am trainer of the course and admin too, both can’t see anything.
What goes wrong?
moodle 1.9.3 (Build 20081015)
Thank you, Norbert

Sorry, I forgot to write, that I have installed the file manager.

Hi mauno,
well, for privacy issues, administrators do not see what users are sharing. at least this is what the block is designed for.
anyway, stay tuned with this block in next versions of this block.

Hi,

Is there a demo of this module for Moodle? Would be interesting to see. Also I wonder if it is compatbile with 1.9.X versions?
Kind regards.
Jonas

Hi Jonas, which moudle you mean?!
anyway, all modules are working with 1.9 excluding the book module and oral assessment.

moodle docs has documentation but there is no demo on moodle.org

thanks!

Hi,
Sorry I forgot, I am talking about the Skype module.
Woudl be great to see a demo or some screen shots.
Kind regards,
Jonas

Hi

I just played around with the file-manager_block.
1. Think I fixed the bug with the remaining directory size (added missing language string and changed the view.php file)
2. Completed german translation, incl. help-files
3. Added a small css-file, so that the checkbox for “select all” aligns correctly with the rest of the table-header in view.php.
4. Added a line-break before the categories-table, so the table does not interfere with the cat-actions-menu when the browser-window is narrow.
Perhaps the code I changed is not really “clean”. I’m not a developer, but things are working on my Moodle 1.9.2…;-))

Where can I send or put the whole ZIP-File with the “new” file_manager? You may first have a look at the changes made and correct them, if necessary, before all is available for the community…

Greetings from Switzerland
Roger

Hi roger..
thank you so much… please send to a [dot] hourani at gmail dont com

I am trying to install the Skype module, I keep receiving error messages.

1- (mysql): INSERT INTO mdl_log_display(module, action, mtable, field) VALUES (’skype’, ‘add’, ’skype’, ‘name’) 1062: Duplicate entry ’skype-add’ for key 2

2- (mysql): INSERT INTO mdl_log_display(module, action, mtable, field) VALUES (’skype’, ‘view’, ’skype’, ‘name’) 1062: Duplicate entry ’skype-view’ for key 2

3 – (mysql): INSERT INTO mdl_log_display(module, action, mtable, field) VALUES (’skype’, ‘update’, ’skype’, ‘name’) 1062: Duplicate entry ’skype-update’ for key 2

4- (mysql): INSERT INTO mdl_log_display(module, action, mtable, field) VALUES (’skype’, ‘view skype’, ’skype’, ‘name’) 1062: Duplicate entry ’skype-view skype’ for key 2

Have I done something wrong? I uploaded file into mod folder. Ran Admin.

Thanks!
Rev Deb

Hi Rev Deb,

you must delete the above records from mdl_log to be able to re-install skype module.

ie.: delete from mdl_log_display where module=’skype’;

Note: you might need to do the same for mdl_log

then reinstall skype module.

good luck

Can you tell me how and where to add webpages of my own into moodle site, but not within the course just it should me related to whole site.

And also the webpages should be with same header, footer and should force login…..

Any help would be Appreciated,

Cheers
Kieron

Hi Kieron,
go to main page and turn editing on and add a resource in the middle page or in the top left block. then in resources settings, choose to force login and other things :-)
good luck

Block file_manager tables could NOT be set up successfully!

Any ideas how to fix?
Thanks for your time.

Hi Jeremy,
Just delete all file block tables from datbase and then reinstall the block.

good luck

Hi Amr!

I’ve made a Catalan translation of your file manager block, please contact me so that I can send it to you.

Thanks a lot, very nice job!

Bernat Romagosa.

Hi Jeremy,
Could you please send the translation to: a(dot) hourani (ATT) gmail
thanks!

that worked great thank you!

Hi Amr,
Ive installed analogue clock on moodle 1.9.2 and it installed fine, however when i navigate through the admin menu:
Administration/ ► Modules/ ► Blocks/ ► Manage blocks and click on settings for the clock i get :

Section Error!

Any ideas or pointers?

Hi Tee,
turn debugging on and print out the error you get.

Hi Amr,

I’ve just downloaded and installed your Moodle Skype module. It works well, nicely done!

However, on my server, starting the PHP tags with just <? instead of <?php left some unsightly artefacts on the printed pages. I changed them and the artefacts disappeared.

Hi Matbury.. thank you man!
as for the begin tag, yeah you are right.. my fault i didnt change them long time ago!
I will update as soon as possible

thanks one more time :-)

Hi Amr,
I have installed and configured the file_manager block and it works fine. However, I would like to make the file_manager block global, which means that students are not required to visit a particular course to share a file. Is this possible with this module.

thanks for your excellent module.
regards
Sasikala

Hi Sasikala,
yes you can make it globally, by editing block_file_manager.php (end of file):

function applicable_formats() {
return array(’site’ => false, ‘course’ => true);
}

change it to:

function applicable_formats() {
return array(’site’ => true, ‘course’ => true);
}

Thanks Amr.
It worked wonderfully.

Currently the file_manager settings allows configuration for students, teachers and administrators. Is there any specific reason why it’s limited to teachers, administrators and students?
If this is not done, then I can contribute a patch for adding other roles also. Please let me know your comments.

Amr,
Sorry to disturb you again. I’m struck with an error after I enabled the site-wide file sharing. When I tried to share a file with others, it shows an error message:

“This SQL relies on obsolete tables! Your code must be fixed by a developer.”
I am using moodle-1.9.3 and file_manager version is 2008112400.

Please visit the following link to view a screenshot of the error message.
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ZomjCr-SMYcWUOCPeA-wbw?feat=directlink

Kindly guide me how to fix this problem.

regards
Sasikala

Hi Sasikala,

in print_lib.php there is a function called: fm_print_share_course_members
check it, and there is in this function an explicit call for ‘user_students’ table.

sorry, I’m using my pda since my laptop is broken 2 days ago.. I cant write any code right now! but i will make sure to patch it the sooner and update it.

good luck

Hello Amr,
Thanks for your guidance. Meanwhile I will also try to hack it and if I succeeds I shall sent you the code.

regards
Sasikala

Amr,
Moodle-1.9.3 doesn’t have a ‘user_students’ table. This means I have to depend upon role & role_assignments to retrieve the role information, right?

One more question:
The file sharing works OK within a course. How does it work without ‘user_students’ table ?

Sasikala

because in course = 1 (site level) it pass by the condition of getting all users, so it fails. but in course sharing it doesnt pass by this condition.
user_students and user_teacher and user_admin are for 1.6 and below. they are not there after 1.6 and file manager built since 1.5 and upgraded so i still expect bugs :)

Hi, Amr. I just installed the file manager block for 1.9.3. I had to un-install an older version first and had to drop these tables:

1. $ prefix_fmanager_admin
2. $ prefix_fmanager_shared
3. $ prefix_fmanager_folders
4. $ prefix_fmanager_categories
5. $ prefix_fmanager_link

However, after I installed the new version and went to the admin page, I got this error:

Any clue how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Hi Peter,
Seems you didnt un-install the block probably,
you have to uninstall it from modules/blocks manager (link is in administration block)

go there and un-install it, then reinstall the file manager..

thanks

Yippee!! It works now!

Thanks, Amr.

Peter

Hi, Amr. I’d like to make the File Manager block available on the main page of the site (course 1). But when I turn editing on and look at the blocks that appear in the drop-down menu, the File Manager does not appear.

Ideally, users would log in and see the File Manager at the top level of Moodle, where they would store all their stuff and be able to share stuff and receive shared stuff from other users. Possible?

Thanks.

Peter

Hi Peter,
Please check the comments from Sasikala and my answer to them.

Hi, Amr. I read that response to Sasikala but was confused. Sasikala said that when site-wide was enabled, it created an error. You then responded that you were going to patch it. Have you patched it yet? Is it OK to make the change now?

Also, not clear if I can enable it on the main page (course 1) on the site or not.

Would you please clarify?

Thanks.

Peter

You can enable site-wide block if you have moodle 1.6 or older.

for the patch, I didnt do it yet due to the overhead on me nowadays.

Hi, Amr. OK, I enabled the block to appear site-wide and it’s there now. But I get the same error that Sasikala reported:

“This SQL relies on obsolete tables! Your code must be fixed by a developer.”

In your response to Sasikala, you said:

“in print_lib.php there is a function called: fm_print_share_course_members
check it, and there is in this function an explicit call for ‘user_students’ table.”

What needs to be done now to make it work? I understand that in course = 1 (site level) it passes by the condition of getting all users, so it fails. But how can it be made to work so that all users show up when you click on “Share with others”?

Thanks for all your hard work on this. It’s so close to being perfect!

:-)

Peter

Hi peter,
unfo. this is not the only function that relies on oldtables. there are too many functions.
i will be doing this but i need time

OK – so is it best to wait? Should I disable the site-wide availability for now?

Thanks.

Peter

Yes, disable it plz

I’m currently trying to get the Skype module to work inside moodle 1.9.3 and am encountering a problem.

It appears as though a person must be registered as a student in order to appear on the “choose” menu when a skype contact page is created. IF you are just a an administrator or Instructors don’t appear on the choice menu if it’s “all group.” What I was hoping to get was a choice menu where it had all students and all teachers.

The immediate solution is to add an administrator or instructor into the students role as well, but that is not a particularly good solution.

Is there a way to set up a skype item that has all people registered for the class?

Hi Scott,
you must add users into course groups, also in skype settings; choose to what role you want this skype appear.

also notice that users should have skype ids in order to show them in the select menu.

I did a couple of grammer tweeks to the skype mod and added a read me. you can grab it at http://rapidshare.com/files/189305601/skype.zip.html to look it over.

Hi Amr,

I installed Skype for Moodle successfully. However when I choose a student from the list, the exprected window comes up but with the following error

Notice: Undefined variable: course in /var/www/html/moodle/mod/skype/call.php on line 12

Notice: Undefined variable: cm in /var/www/html/moodle/mod/skype/call.php on line 12

Please advise

What version of Moodle are you using? What is your server configiration? And what is your course format?

I was thinking about this overnight and I am also curious what skype version number you are using.

Hi Amr!

I’ve downloaded your block File Manager for Moodle 1.9

I’d like to see the block on the main page (outside a course)…is it possible?

Hope you can help…

Thanks!

Claudia

Hi,
it seems not installed properly. this table is not created in the database..
uninstall it and then install it again.

I had to delete it through the Block Manager screen. Thank you very much. It works great.

Hi Amr

We have installed the topic tabs module for our courses and they are fantastic…well done. Was wondering if you have solved the issue of too many tabs, which then disappear off the right hand side of the screen.

cheers

Ivan

Ivan,
I am having the same problem. Did you ever get a resolution on how we might get the tabs to wrap to the next line? I have courses with up to 50 topics and they all require users to scroll to the right side to view.

Thanks!
Asana

Hi Amr

The Topics Tabs look like they could be the best thing since curry but I can’t get them to work – i.e. changing the names of topics, putting activities etc. in each topic. I have also tried the weekly tabs and get a warning like this – any ideas how I can get this to work please?

Warning: make_editing_buttons() [function.make-editing-buttons]: Unable to access /elearn/lib/locklib.php in lib.php on line 2790

Hi,

Thanks

Hello Amr,

I’ve installed Skype in my Moodle, but I’d like to change the language to portuguese in the main Skype-moodle page. Can you give me a hint?

Thank you,
Sandro.

go to site languages, and choose portuguese. notice that you should place skype.php (portuguese language file) in moodle’s portuguese language directory

Will this SKype module work for tutor to student communication?I am confused by the statement that says ‘two types tutor to tutor and student to student. I am looking for a way to have both tutor to student and student to student communication.

Hello Amr, I installed the plugin skipe taken from moodle.org (Moodle version 1.9.5). I do not see any contact Skipe to add.
What’s wrong?
There is a newer version?

Hello Amr, first of all thanks for your great filesharing block.
I`m only missing one thing: Is it possible to display the hole path of an actual directory? For example: directory1 > subdirectory3 > and so on….
Without this, sometimes I´m losing orientation…

Hola Amr,

I have a problem installing the skype module. I followed the steps posted here and in the official moodle page, but i can’t get to see the list of users with skype ids on their profile.
I tried updating the moodle/lib/deprecatedlib.php file but nothing happend. I don’t know what else to try.

Hope you can help me!! Thanks in advanced..

Regards from Venezuela :)
Jane

Hey Jane,
did you check that the users are enrolled in group mode in the course and they have skype ids in their profiles?

if the above is already done and no luck.. then turn debugging on (from moodle administration block) and tell me what error appears in skype view page

good luck

Hi,

Currently running 1.9.5+

I get [[modulename]] within the activity drop down after I install the Skype activity module.

I also get [[modulenameplural]] in the breadcrumb as the name of the activity.

I have tried installing a number of times already and in your suggested order i.e.:

(1) Copy Skype folder to /mod directory
(2) Copy skype/lang/en_utf8/skype.php file to /lang/en_utf8/ directory
(3) Run Notifications
(4) I get all successes

But still get the [[modulename]] in activity drop down menu and [[modulenameplural]] in breadcrumb. Activity will not also work.

you have to uninstall the module and reinstall it (but before installing it to copy the language file

Hi, trying to get several of your plugins from Moodle site but links broken, can you help?

broken links are:
http://www.ilearnware.com/contrib/download.php?file=topicstabs.rar
&
http://www.ilearnware.com/contrib/download.php?file=assignment.rar

This URL for the Activity Module: Assignment – Oral Assessment isn’t working. Can you provide an alternative link?

Thank you.

O.k., your modules are free and so I cannot make a claim. But: open source lives from reliability, too.
The URL where you store your modules is not working for a few weeks. There are hints from users here and in the moodle discussion. Please adjust the access. Thank you.

Guys! sorry for the delay.. am in my vacation.. however, i promise to fix the hosting issue within 3 days.. stay tuned

Thank you for your response! Download of file manager is working now! And sorry – I wish you a nice vacation!

We have been trying the file_manager and it works perfectly for storage however the sharing is confusing us

If we enable shring to course members when we click on the share icon we don’t get a list of course members we get ( what appears to be ) 150 or so semi random names of people who have accounts.

eg I created a course and made two test users. both users are on the course. User A uploads a file and tries to share it. user B
isn’t on the list but 150 other people are ( out of 650 total users on Moodle )

Are we doing something wrong ?

Ta

M

I am having the same issue as Mal. The share list in a course shows some members from that course, and some from outside the course, and I can’t see a pattern as to who gets included. By the way, this module is way cool.
